Using Facebook For Business

Since now you know a bit about me it's time to learn a bit more about me in a professional sense. You can take a look at my Professional Facebook Page that I created. It was created to be used at an online resume or business card for future employers. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lisa/119557101482111?sk=wall

Yes, I did say Professional Facebook Page! When I heard Jess, my professor in ALES204, talking about how I had to make a Professional Facebook Page I was a bit worried to say the least. I mean it's Facebook! But when I did a bit more research about using Facebook to connect to future employers it actually seemed like a very good idea. First of all as a Professional Facebook Page everything should relate to myself in a business appropriate way. The more and more I researched about it the better the idea it was; especially, because having a professional Facebook page is a great way for an employer to find you, learn about you, and look at your credentials, all before having even met you. Now even though I am not the most technology smart person doing a Facebook page versus the profile was a bit difficult for me. I actually had quite a few problems getting things to work and I'm not quite sure how to add links and such to my page. But I think will some time and learning how to add things to the page it will be a great Professional Facebook Page.

While seeing what Professional Facebook pages were about I did look at a few of my classmates blogs. I really like reading Rachaels blog (http://rradams18.blogspot.com/). I liked how she went into the details talking about why she added and did her Facebook page the way she did. And I think Rachaels blog with her Facebook page will work really well for a future employer to get to know her.

About Me

Hi my name is Lisa, and I'm currently in my second year of Food and Nutrition; but I'm hoping to get into the Nutrition program next year. Even though this is my second year in this program its actually only my first year in Edmonton because I transferred here from Red Deer College.

Some info about me is that I actually have a diploma in fashion marketing and merchandising. When I finish this program I hope to start my own consulting company by incorporating both the nutrition and fashion together. I grew in a small town south of Calgary. I love to play and watch baseball and hockey (and yes I'm a huge flames fan).

I think that communication will play a huge role if I started my own company because I would need a easy way to connect and link with my customers and future customers. This is where twitter and facebook are really useful because its an easy way to get your name out there and have people find you. Even just within the food and nutrition program communication is a necessity to get important information out to certain people or a certain demographic.  The use of twitter and such would be a very quick way of responding to people with questions about say their diet. Communication within this field is huge as well because there needs to be a quick way for dietitians to receive new information on research as well. The use of social media is growing and I think it's a great way for people connect to professionals for advice and information.
